Checklist for a Happy Move

As soon as you know
your new address:
Notify post office and fill out change of address forms
Notify magazines & newspaper providers of new address
Notify insurance company of new address
Change all addresses on charge accounts
30-15 days before you

Purchase packing cartons if mover does not supply them
Prepare inventory of items to be moved
Set up a house cleaner for the day of moving
Dispose of everything you do not want to move (now’s the time!)
*Notify schools & have all records transferred to new
*Obtain dental & medical records
*Make travel arrangements
2 weeks before moving
Return things borrowed, collect things loaned
Arrange new Homeowners insurance policy
Have utility companies make final readings
week before moving
Transfer or close bank accounts as necessary (bank safety deposit box)
Pack all items possible
Begin packing suitcase that you will need immediately in your
Place a box of items you will need immediately in
your new home such as: soap, toilet tissue,
towels, paper plates, cups, can opener, etc,
Put aside articles to be taken in your car
The day before
Defrost refrigerator/freezer, clean & air out
Plan for a simple breakfast (less cleanup)
Be ready to supervise the moving company
Check house to make sure nothing was left and everything is turned off
& locked up

Have a payment on hand for the movers
*Locate nearest: hospital, fire dept, drug store, veterinarian, etc.

ELECTRICITY: You have a choice of providers for electricity, including the
City of Lethbridge. However, you MUST first call the City of Lethbridge at
403-320-3111 and register with them as they are the default provider. You
may then choose to switch to an alternative provider immediately, or at a
later date (see suppliers below).
NATURAL GAS: You have a choice of 3 providers: see below.
Note:- City of Lethbridge do not provide gas.

Please ensure you have property insurance - your lawyer will need that
Change your address on Drivers License, Vehicle Insurance etc, etc.
Make a list of the companies that send you mail on a regular basis and
provide them with a change of address. Arrange with the post office to
have mail forwarded to your new address.
Buyers and their agent need to do a walk-through
before 12 noon on possession day.
If there are no problems, the agent will notify your lawyer and the transaction
is completed by noon.
Tips For Packing
Develop a “to do” list so you won't forget anything important.
